Free as a Bard returns to the Jam Jar Cinema on Sunday 4th February with two amazing poets
and the usual fabulous live music. Co-hosts Rob Walton and Pete Mortimer will be

Andrew Sclater is a drystane dyker, motorbiker, ex-hitchhiker and northerner. His poems
have won Northern Promise and Scottish Book Trust Awards, and been shortlisted for the
Picador Poetry Prize. He was part of the group that founded Butcher's Dog magazine. His
pamphlet Dinner at the Blaws-Baxters (2016) is published by HappenStance.
Chris Raetschus is from Newport in South Wales. She lived in Iran working for the Diplomatic Service, and Germany and Northern Nigeria. She was a Senior Lecturer at Nene College Northampton before moving to Northumberland where she began to write and where she worked as a Registrar of Births, Marriages and Deaths. She has had success in several
competitions and her poems appear in many places, including Pieces from Eight (IRON
Press, 2014). Her pamphlet, How to Skim a Pebble, is published by Red Squirrel Press.
The Cornshacks are Mick Young (guitar/harmonica/vocals ), Gill Riddick
(uke/washboard/vocals) and Carol Stephen (uke/vocals). They play an eclectic mix of good
ol’ foot-stomping tunes - Americana , a pinch of jazz and a whiff of rockabilly. They've
played various venues including the Cluny ,the Exchange, the Prohibition Bar, the Globe and
the Surf Cafe.
Doors to the building open at 7.30, to the auditorium at 7:45 and the event starts at 8:00pm.
There will be an interval and drinks are permitted into the screen. Seating is allocated so
choose where you wish to sit when booking.
